Top 5 Wine Bars in London

Gone are the days of old man boozers occupying every second corner across the country. Over the last 10 years we have seen many a gastro pub be opened and more recently boutique wine bars becoming all the rage. The number of wine bars in London is growing rapidly as there is a preference for people to go out for a glass of wine and some tapas rather than having a carb heavy full plated meal. Whether it’s their laid back atmosphere or the fact wine is becoming Savage [excuse the pun], wine bars are tapping into this by offering a great selection of wines by the glass alongside attractive menus full of delicious plates to share with your pals.

If you are not sure which style of wines you like then seeking out good wine bars might be right up your alley. They will have a vast selection of wines to choose from, sourced from several different countries, offered by the glass. Most wine bars will allow you to ask for a small sample of a particular wine in order to taste it before you order a glass or bottle to share.  This is a great way to find your ‘go to’ wine by discovering and comparing the different styles.

Today drinking wine is an experience, one to be done in the company of friends and family where people discuss and share their opinions. With such a growing thirst for this concept, and interest in the tipple, the wine bar scene is not surprisingly booming, with an array of new wine bars opening their doors across the country every month.

VINOTECA Wine BAR & SHOP

The pioneers of the wine bar scene in London. They opened their first wine bar back in 2005. Vinoteca is one of the most famous wine bars in London with six locations. The wine list is extensive but very consumer friendly. The food is great with fresh ingredients and new recipes available on a regular basis. They run a special promotion on Mondays when you can get any bottle at shop price instead of the regular restaurant price. An online shop is also available. If you are looking for a more intimate atmosphere, our favourite site is in Chiswick.

10 CASES WINE BAR

This is a great wine bar located very close to buzzing Covent Garden in the city. This place is unique because it only ever buys 10 cases of each wine, hence the idea behind the name. The wine on offer is always new and exciting and you can find delicious tapas paired with a full menu with more substantial dishes. The outlet also has a bottle shop next door with a more relaxed food offering. The outside space is great to feel the vibe of Central London, specially if you are thinking to spend some time in the area for shopping or going to the theatre.

We can highly recommend the mixed platters, sardines and mussels. The bar runs monthly interactive wine events with a focus on different topics starting from £20 per person.
